Linda is a fifty year old former English teacher from Boston. Her partner has left her alone in South Dakota. She offers a night of shelter and a cup of coffee to a twenty five year old widower from Mississippi who is on his way to Idaho. Together they from a friendship that will change them both.
He is content to go anywhere but home. She would rather be home than anywhere. But both have a destiny that is largely outside of their control.
In the midst of such chaos, they will learn from each other and try to maintain the humanity that keeps civilization alive. As they travel the road, the horrors of a society in collapse are balanced with brief moments of peace. A peace that in the midst of chaos becomes a simple but profound joy.
